Adobe Photoshop Beginners (Level 1)
Everyone says they know Photoshop. Almost nobody does.
Photoshop is the most claimed skill on the internet and one of the least understood. Most people learned four tools from a YouTube video and have been improvising since, which works right up until someone asks for a change and the only option is starting over.
This class fixes that at the root. Participants learn what the application is actually doing, why an image looks fine on screen and terrible in print, and how to build files that survive revision. Most arrive with a habit that has been costing them hours a month and leave without it.
Marketing and communications staff take this because the graphics work landed on them. Individuals take it to move into creative work. It is the most requested Adobe class at DWC, and it is the entry point for both the Graphic Design and Digital Media Production certificates.
Content and exercises are built around real work, and private group sessions are built around your own brand, templates, and files. Classes are delivered live online, and on-site delivery is available across the Colorado Front Range. This class sits alongside our other Adobe Creative Cloud classes.
This course includes
- Live, instructor led class delivered across four sessions
- Hands on work on real images, including your own
- Non-destructive workflow taught from the first session
- Practical use of AI-assisted tools like Generative Fill and AI selection
- Digital learning materials and take home reference guides
- Certificate of completion for every participant
Description
The first sessions cover the things that quietly ruin work: resolution, color mode, and file format. Participants learn why an image that looks perfect on a screen prints muddy, what actually happens when you scale something up, and which format to use where. It is unglamorous and it prevents most of the mistakes they are currently making.
The middle is layers, selections, and masks, taught as a system rather than a list of tools. Participants learn to work non-destructively from the start, so a change request means an edit rather than a rebuild. They practice retouching, compositing, and correction on real images, including the ones they brought.
The final sessions are output and application. Participants build marketing graphics, web assets, and print-ready files, and learn to prepare each correctly for where it is going. They also work with Photoshop's AI-assisted tools, including Generative Fill and AI selection, with a clear line between where those accelerate the work and where they need a trained eye to catch the result.
