Adobe Illustrator Beginners (Level 1)

Your logo pixelates on a banner. That is a file problem.

The logo someone sent you is a JPEG. It looked fine in the email and it is a blurry mess on the trade show banner. That is not a design problem, it is a file format problem, and it is the single most common reason organizations end up paying a designer for something they already own.

Illustrator is the answer, and it is the application people bounce off hardest. The pen tool defeats most self-teachers in the first hour. This class gets participants through that wall in a session, with an instructor watching their screen and telling them what their hand is doing wrong.

Marketing staff take this to stop outsourcing every icon and social graphic. Small business owners take it to own their brand assets outright. It counts toward the Graphic Design and Digital Media Production certificates.

Content and exercises are built around real work, and private group sessions are built around your own brand, templates, and files. Classes are delivered live online, and on-site delivery is available across the Colorado Front Range. This class sits alongside our other Adobe Creative Cloud classes.

This course includes

  • Live, instructor led class delivered across four sessions
  • Focused pen tool instruction with an instructor watching your screen
  • Real assets built during class: logo, icon set, and marketing artwork
  • Export and handoff for print, web, and social
  • Digital learning materials and take home reference guides
  • Certificate of completion for every participant

Description

The first sessions cover why vector exists and how to draw it. Participants learn the difference between vector and raster and why it decides everything downstream, then work through shapes, the pathfinder, and the pen tool. The pen tool gets real time, because it is the gate everyone gets stuck at and it is learnable in an afternoon with someone correcting you.

The middle is type and color. Participants learn to work with typography as a designer rather than a word processor, build and apply a color palette, and understand why the blue on screen is not the blue that prints. They build real assets: a logo, a set of icons, a piece of marketing artwork.

The final sessions are structure and output. Layers, symbols, and artboards that keep a file organized enough to hand over. Then export: which format goes where, how to give a printer what they need, and how to produce the versions of a logo an organization actually requires rather than one file that half works everywhere.
