Adobe InDesign Advanced (Level 2)

One hundred pages, one style change, one afternoon.

A twenty page brochure is a document. A two hundred page catalog is a system, and the difference is that everything you did by hand on the brochure is now impossible. This class is about the systems.

Participants work on long, structured documents and learn where the automation lives: nested styles that format a run of text from one rule, data merge that builds a hundred variations from a spreadsheet, and book files that keep numbering and styles synchronized across separate documents.

In-house teams take this when publications got long enough that someone is losing days to formatting. Agencies take it to standardize production. It counts toward the Graphic Design Certificate.

Content and exercises are built around real work, and private group sessions are built around your own brand, templates, and files. Classes are delivered live online, and on-site delivery is available across the Colorado Front Range. This class sits alongside our other Adobe Creative Cloud classes.

This course includes

  • Live, instructor led class delivered across four sessions
  • Restructuring a real long document from your own work
  • Automation with nested styles, GREP styles, and data merge
  • Interactive PDF and accessibility tagging for reading order
  • Digital learning materials and take home reference guides
  • Certificate of completion for every participant

Description

The first sessions are long document architecture. Book files, synchronized styles across documents, sections and numbering that behave, and tables of contents that build themselves and stay right. Participants restructure a real long document and stop maintaining by hand what the application will maintain for them.

The middle is automation. Nested and GREP styles that format a whole pattern from one rule rather than one selection at a time. Data merge for anything that exists in variations. Object styles and libraries so a component is defined once and reused. This is where the days come back.

The final sessions are interactivity and production. Interactive PDFs with navigation, links, and form fields. Then preflight, packaging, transparency flattening, and the production checks that catch a problem before it becomes a print run. Participants also work on accessibility, tagging structure and reading order so the PDF works for the people who need it to.
