Adobe InDesign Beginners (Level 1)

Word was never going to survive page four.

The annual report is in Word. It was fine until page four, and now the images move when anyone types, the headings have drifted into three different sizes, and somebody spends a day every quarter putting it back together.

That is not a skills problem, it is a tool problem. Word was built for writing and InDesign was built for pages, and the difference shows up exactly when a document gets long enough to matter.

Communications and marketing staff take this because reports, brochures, and newsletters landed on them. Government communications offices take it for public-facing publications where consistency is the point. Nonprofits take it to bring annual reports in-house. It counts toward the Graphic Design Certificate.

Content and exercises are built around real work, and private group sessions are built around your own brand, templates, and files. Classes are delivered live online, and on-site delivery is available across the Colorado Front Range. This class sits alongside our other Adobe Creative Cloud classes.

This course includes

  • Live, instructor led class delivered across four sessions
  • A real multi-page document built during class, plus a reusable template
  • Master pages and styles taught as the framework, not an afterthought
  • Packaging and export for both print and screen
  • Digital learning materials and take home reference guides
  • Certificate of completion for every participant

Description

The first sessions are setup and structure, which is where InDesign pays for itself. Document setup, margins, columns, and master pages, so the framework carries the document instead of you carrying it. Participants learn why the first ten minutes of a file determine the next ten hours.

The middle is type and images. Paragraph and character styles applied properly, so changing a heading means changing one thing rather than eighty. Text flowing across pages without manual intervention. Images placed and linked rather than embedded, so the file stays workable and updates when the source does.

The final sessions are assembly and output. Building a real multi-page document, handling page numbering and sections, and then producing output: packaging for a printer, exporting print-ready PDF, and exporting for screen. Participants leave with a document they built and a template they can reuse.
