Microsoft Power BI Beginners (Level 1)

Your dashboard is a spreadsheet somebody emails on Mondays.

The monthly report is a spreadsheet. Someone spends two days assembling it, emails it, and by the time anyone reads it the numbers have moved. Everyone knows this is bad, and it continues because the alternative requires a skill nobody has.

This workshop builds that skill from zero. Participants connect to their real data, clean it on the way in, build a model, and produce a report that other people can explore without asking anyone. The refresh happens on its own, which is the entire point.

Operations, finance, and analytics leaders use this where reporting is manual and the reporter is a bottleneck. It suits teams who have outgrown Excel for reporting but have no analytics background. Managers who read dashboards rather than build them want Power BI for Data-Driven Decision Makers instead.

Content, datasets, and examples are built around your actual work before delivery. Most groups train live online, and on-site in-person delivery is available by request. This workshop is available by request only, with a three participant minimum, and sits alongside our other data analytics and data literacy workshops.

This course includes

  • Live, instructor led workshop delivered across four sessions
  • Connection and cleaning work using your organization's real data
  • Data modeling, relationships, and your first calculations
  • A working, published dashboard on your own data by the end
  • Digital learning materials and take home reference guides
  • Certificate of completion for every participant

Description

The first sessions are data, which is most of the work and the part every tutorial rushes. Participants connect to files, folders, databases, and services, then clean and reshape on the way in rather than after. They learn why the transformation step is where a dashboard is really built.

The middle is modeling. Participants learn why one flat table will not answer the questions they care about, how tables relate, and how to build a model that supports the analysis rather than fighting it. They write their first calculations, and learn the difference between a measure and a column, which is the concept that trips up nearly everyone.

The final sessions are the report itself and publishing. Participants build visuals that answer a question rather than decorate a page, add interactivity so a manager explores instead of requesting, and publish so it refreshes on a schedule. They leave with a working dashboard on their own data.
