Advanced Jira Workflows, Automation, and Reporting is a live, instructor-led class that moves experienced users to advanced, admin-level capability across three hands-on sessions, delivered online via Zoom or on-site on the Colorado Front Range.

The first session covers custom workflows and project configuration. You will design workflows with conditions, validators, and post functions, configure issue types, screens, and custom fields with discipline, and set up permissions and governance habits that keep configuration maintained as more teams come onto the platform.

The second session goes deep on JQL and automation. You will write queries that answer real questions about overdue, unassigned, and aging work, save the filters that power boards and reports, and build multi-step automation rules with triggers, conditions, actions, and smart values, including cross-project routing and notifications.

The third session covers reporting, dashboards, and AI. You will read burndown, velocity, control charts, and cumulative flow honestly, assemble dashboards that combine multiple projects into one live view for teams, managers, and stakeholders, and apply Jira's AI features with responsible habits for verifying output. The class closes with a guided build applying a workflow, automation rules, and a dashboard to your own project.

Description

Once a team is comfortable in Jira, the next drag on productivity is manual upkeep: statuses updated by hand, work routed by memory, and reporting assembled in spreadsheets outside the platform. In this advanced class, you will learn to build the layer that removes that work: custom workflows that match your real process, automation rules that route and update work on their own, and dashboards that report progress and capacity without a status meeting.

This is a hands-on class. You will design workflows with conditions, validators, and post functions, write JQL queries that power boards, filters, and reports, build multi-step automation rules with triggers and smart values, connect Jira to the email, calendar, and chat tools your organization already uses, and assemble dashboards that combine multiple projects into one live view of workload and progress. The class also covers Jira's AI features at a practical level, including when to use them and how to verify what they produce.

Prerequisites

  • Working knowledge of Jira basics: projects, boards, issues, and views
  • Completion of Jira Fundamentals for the Workplace, or equivalent everyday experience
  • Access to a Jira account with permission to edit workflows, automations, and dashboards (some features require a Standard or Premium plan; the subscription is not included in tuition)
  • No prior automation, JQL, or workflow configuration experience is needed
