AI Risk Management Leadership Using the NIST Framework

When someone asks how you assessed the risk of an AI system, an internal opinion is a weak answer. A recognized framework, applied consistently and documented, is a strong one. That difference matters most exactly when the pressure is highest.
This workshop teaches the NIST AI Risk Management Framework as a working tool rather than a document to cite. Participants apply its four functions, Govern, Map, Measure, and Manage, to systems they actually run, and learn where the framework gives real guidance and where it hands the judgment back to you.
Senior leaders and managers use this where AI risk decisions have to be defensible to an auditor, a regulator, a board, or the public. Public sector leaders use it because NIST is a recognized federal reference point, which makes it a stronger foundation than an internal method nobody outside the room accepts. Content, scenarios, and examples are built around your actual work and your approved tools before delivery. Most groups train live online, and on-site in-person delivery is available by request. Description
The day opens with the framework itself and, importantly, what it is not. It is not a checklist that produces a compliance answer, and treating it as one is the most common failure. Participants work through the four functions and where each one actually applies, then map a system they run against Govern and Map before lunch.
The middle is Measure, which is the hardest function and the one most organizations skip. Participants work on what can genuinely be measured about an AI system, what gets measured because it is easy rather than because it matters, and how to handle a risk that is real and not quantifiable. They learn why a risk register full of numbers can be less honest than one with fewer.
The last stretch is Manage and communication. Participants decide what to accept, mitigate, transfer, or avoid, and practice explaining an AI risk to someone who needs a decision rather than an education. They work the case where the honest answer is that the risk cannot be reduced enough, and leave with the framework applied to one real system.

There are no prerequisites for this workshop and no technical background is assumed. It is designed for managers and senior staff accountable for AI risk decisions. Leaders who also need to build the underlying oversight structure can pair it with Responsible AI Governance and Oversight for Managers.
