Every organization has the formula. It is nested six levels deep, it produces the right number, and the person who wrote it left in 2023. Nobody will touch it, so the workaround is now permanent.
This workshop is about the craft of the calculation itself. Not more functions for their own sake, but building logic that handles the exceptions, that a colleague can read, and that you can debug when it starts returning something wrong.
Finance, operations, and analytics leaders use this where calculations carry real consequence and errors are expensive. It is narrower and deeper than Microsoft Excel Advanced (Level 3), which covers automation and data connection. This one is the formulas.
Content, datasets, and examples are built around your actual work before delivery. Most groups train live online, and on-site in-person delivery is available by request. This workshop is available by request only, with a three participant minimum, and sits alongside our other data analytics and data literacy workshops.

Description
The first session is logic that holds. Participants build conditional formulas around the messy cases, the blank, the outlier, the value that should not exist and does. They learn to combine functions cleanly rather than nesting until it is unreadable, and why a formula split across helper columns often beats a clever one-liner.
The second session covers the data types that cause the most quiet damage: dates that are text, numbers that are text, and text that needs parsing. Participants learn to diagnose why a calculation silently excludes rows, and to work with dates properly, which is where a surprising share of reporting errors actually originate.
The workshop closes on debugging. Participants learn to trace a calculation backward, use the evaluation tools rather than guessing, and build error handling that reports a problem instead of hiding it. They work on a real formula from their own organization that nobody currently trusts.

Prerequisites
Participants should be comfortable writing formulas, using cell references, and working with lookups. Those without that foundation should start with Microsoft Excel Intermediate (Level 2).
