Effective Business Writing
If it takes three reads to understand, it wasn't written well.
Bad business writing is expensive in a way that never appears on a budget line. The report that gets skimmed and misread. The proposal that loses because the evaluator could not find the answer. The memo that generates a meeting to explain the memo. Somebody absorbs that cost, usually in rework.
This workshop treats writing as structure rather than style. Participants are not learning to write elegantly. They are learning to put the decision where a busy reader will find it, to cut what does not earn its place, and to anticipate the question the reader will ask next.
HR and learning and development leaders use it for teams that write to funders, regulators, executives, or customers, where a document is often the only representation of the work. Operations managers use it where written handoffs carry real risk. Participants bring their own documents, and examples are built from your actual writing before delivery. This is the document-focused counterpart to Effective Communication for the Workplace, which covers speaking and listening alongside writing.
Content, scenarios, and examples are built around your actual work before delivery. Most groups train live online, and on-site in-person delivery is available by request. This workshop is available by request only, with a three participant minimum, and sits alongside our other workforce development workshops for teams.

Description
The day opens with structure, because most weak documents are not badly written sentence by sentence. They are organized in the order the writer discovered things rather than the order the reader needs them. Participants learn to lead with the conclusion, build the support underneath it, and let a reader stop at any point and still have the answer.
From there the work is on the page. Participants draft and revise the documents they actually produce: status reports, recommendations, proposals, executive summaries, and the long email that should have been a memo. They practice cutting by half without losing meaning, writing headings that carry information, and using formatting as navigation rather than decoration.
The final stretch is revision as a discipline. Participants learn to read their own draft as an impatient stranger would, catch the sentence that only makes sense if you already know the context, and check tone against intent. They leave with a revision checklist and drafts they improved during the session.
