Why it works

Small live classes with a working developer

In web development every concept builds on the one before it, so gaps compound fast. In a small live class your instructor sees your code in real time, catches the JavaScript gap before it follows you into React, and moves on only when the class is solid.

  • Taught live by a working developer, never pre-recorded video
  • Portfolio projects in every module, not just the final week
  • A Capstone you can build around the work you want to do
  • Career coaching, tech support, and micro-internship access included

Career outcomes

Frontend web development jobs and careers

Employers hire frontend developers on what they can see. You finish with deployed projects in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React, a Capstone you can walk through in an interview, and career coaching to help you land the first role.

Career paths

Front end developer jobs and where this certificate leads

Every organization with a digital presence needs people who can build and maintain it, and those jobs extend well beyond dedicated developer roles. Marketing teams, SaaS companies, e-commerce operations, healthcare organizations, schools, and nonprofits all hire people who can write clean frontend code and work with engineering teams. Open each role below to see what the job involves and how the program prepares you.

Student learning in the Frontend web development certificate

Front-End Web Developer

Builds the parts of websites and applications people see and use, with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and increasingly React. Front-end developers turn designs into responsive, accessible interfaces and work with back-end developers on data and APIs.

In this program: HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap (Module 1), JavaScript (Module 2), and React (Module 4).

UI Developer and User Interface Designer

Focuses on the look, feel, and accessibility of a digital product. UI developers build component libraries and interface details; UI designers shape visual design and interaction, and those who can code hand off work that ships faster.

In this program: responsive layout, component architecture in React, and editing graphics for the web (Modules 1, 3, and 4).

Web Analyst

Collects and analyzes how people interact with a site or app, then recommends changes that improve conversions and usability. Analysts who understand the DOM and tracking implementation work faster with developers and marketers.

Mobile and Responsive Designer

Designs and implements interfaces that work across phones, tablets, and desktops. Responsive layout with CSS and Bootstrap, covered from Module 1, is the foundation of this work.

Web Designer with coding skills and website content developer

Builds and maintains marketing sites and content in a CMS, often inside a marketing or communications team. Coding skills let you go beyond templates, fix what breaks, and work directly with developers.

Career progression: from junior developer to lead

Most graduates start as junior front-end or web developers, UI developers, or web designers who code. With experience and a growing portfolio, front-end developers advance into senior front-end developer, full-stack developer, lead UI engineer, web development team lead, and technical product manager roles.

React expertise, fullstack fluency, and AI-assisted workflow skills, all covered in this curriculum, help developers move through the entry-level stage faster. Organizations increasingly want developers who can work across the stack and communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders.

Freelance and contract work

Frontend development supports both employment and independent work. Many graduates take on contract projects or build and maintain sites for their own business, and the portfolio you build in this program supports either path.

AI and development

How AI is changing web development work

AI coding tools have moved from novelty to standard in professional development. Code assistants, AI-assisted debugging, and natural language code generation are now part of how working developers operate. The developers who benefit most are not the ones generating code they do not understand; they are the ones who know HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and framework architecture well enough to direct AI tools, catch their errors, and take responsibility for what ships.

This program introduces AI tools for web development in Module 3 and uses them throughout the rest of the curriculum. You learn to accelerate your workflow, evaluate AI-generated code for accuracy and maintainability, and recognize plausible-looking but broken output. A junior developer who can debug code they did not write is an asset.

Since 2006

Why DWC trains differently

Most frontend training is either a self-paced video course where no one looks at your code, or a large bootcamp where you are one of thirty people trying to get a question answered. DWC has delivered live, instructor-led career training nationwide since 2006, and when your React component will not render or a Git merge conflict stops you cold, you get an answer from a developer who has hit that problem in production.

You graduate with the DWC Frontend Web Development Certificate, a professional certificate issued by Digital Workshop Center, and portfolio work hiring managers recognize as substantive, with career coaching included to help you land the first role.

FAQ

Frontend web development questions, answered

Still curious? Attend a free info session or call 970-980-8091.

When can I start the frontend web development program?

Classes are small and live, with rolling enrollment. Enroll any time, and your class start date, session days, and session times are set once enrollment fills, typically within 2 to 3 weeks. Class start timing depends on enrollment and cannot be guaranteed. Sessions can be scheduled during the day or in the evening.

Do I need prior coding experience to enroll?

No. The curriculum begins with HTML and CSS and builds progressively through JavaScript, frameworks, and fullstack fundamentals. Basic computer literacy and comfort navigating web-based tools are all that is expected going in. Web development is cumulative, so a small live class where your instructor catches gaps early matters more here than in most subjects.

How long is the program and how many hours per week does it take?

The program is 198 hours of live instruction, three 3-hour sessions per week, for about 6 months. Plan an additional two to four hours per week outside of class for coding assignments, project work, and practice.

How much does the Frontend Web Development Certificate cost?

Tuition is $6,995. No paid software subscriptions are required: every tool in the curriculum, including code editors, Git, Node.js, React, and MongoDB, is free. WIOA, DVR, scholarships, employer billing, and Climb Credit payment plans can lower your out-of-pocket cost.

What tools and languages will I use?

HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap for layout and responsive design; JavaScript for interactivity; Git for version control; React for component-based interfaces; Node.js and Webpack for server-side JavaScript and bundling; MongoDB, Express, and the MERN stack for fullstack fundamentals; and AI-assisted development tools from Module 3 on.

Will I build a portfolio I can show employers?

Yes. Portfolio work is built into all six modules, including responsive multi-page websites, interactive JavaScript components, and React interfaces. Your Capstone in Module 6 is a complete project you plan, build, and present live with structured critique, and you can shape it around the work you want to do, such as an e-commerce interface, a data dashboard, or a site for your own business. Career coaching on your resume, portfolio, and interviews is included.

How is this different from a self-paced course or a coding bootcamp?

Self-paced platforms give you content with no live instruction and no one reviewing your code. Large bootcamps give you a live instructor teaching to dozens of students at once. DWC classes are small and live with a working developer who looks at your code in real time, explains why something is or is not working, and adjusts to where the class is in the material.

What careers does this program prepare me for?

Graduates pursue entry-level roles including junior front-end developer, junior web developer, UI developer, web designer with coding skills, and website content developer. Employers include agencies, SaaS and e-commerce companies, marketing teams, healthcare and financial services organizations, and nonprofits, and many graduates also take on freelance and contract work.

What backgrounds transfer well into web development?

Marketing professionals bring instincts about user behavior and what a site needs to accomplish. Designers bring visual literacy and layout judgment. Entrepreneurs and small business owners bring domain expertise that helps them build the right thing. The program is designed for adults who have worked inside organizations and want to add a high-value technical skill to what they already bring.

Is this program eligible for WIOA funding?

Yes. The Frontend Web Development Certificate is eligible for WIOA funding through local American Job Centers, with eligibility determined individually. DWC prepares the documentation case managers need, including learning objectives, tuition and itemized costs, the schedule, and credential information. Start with our WIOA funding guide.

Can vocational rehabilitation or my employer pay for training?

Often, yes. State vocational rehabilitation (DVR) agencies fund training for people with documented disabilities, and web development is largely remote-capable work; DWC coordinates directly with your counselor. Many employers also fund training through professional development budgets, and DWC invoices employers directly. Our guide on how to ask your employer to pay includes talking points and email templates.

Is there a scholarship for veterans?

Yes. The Next Mission Scholarship takes 80% off standard tuition for eligible U.S. veterans and qualifying active-duty service members within 180 days of separation. Eligibility requires verified veteran status (DD-214 or equivalent), separation within the past 7 years, and individual annual income between $30,000 and $75,000. Veterans outside that range may qualify for WIOA, VA Vocational Rehabilitation, or the Community Heroes Discount of 40% off.

What credential will I earn?

The DWC Frontend Web Development Certificate, a professional certificate issued by Digital Workshop Center, with full documentation of learning objectives and program outcomes for employers and workforce case managers.
