Next Mission Scholarship

If you came here looking for a VET TEC approved program, you are in the right place.

Veterans technology scholarship VET TEC approved program

DWC was an approved provider under the original VET TEC program. We trained veterans across the country in fully online technology certificate programs, and our graduation and job placement rates were among the highest in the program. When VET TEC 2.0 launched under the DOLE Act in 2025, changes to the federal eligibility requirements for online, non-accredited schools removed DWC from the approved provider list. This happened through no fault of our program quality, our outcomes, or our commitment to veterans. It is a statutory change we have no control over, and we understand how frustrating it is for veterans who trained with us before or who found us while researching VET TEC options.

We did not walk away from this community. We built the Next Mission Scholarship specifically for the veterans VET TEC 2.0 left behind. Qualifying veterans receive 80 percent off standard tuition. The remaining balance is financed through Climb Credit, a student lending partner that specializes in career-focused training programs. DWC collects nothing after enrollment. There are no waitlists. You can enroll in the next available cohort.

Individual income $30,000 to $75,000  |  Within 7 years of discharge  |  All nine certificate programs eligible  |  Nationwide online

Looking for a VET TEC approved program?

If you searched for VET TEC approved schools, VET TEC technology training, VET TEC data analytics, VET TEC web development, VET TEC digital marketing, or VET TEC CompTIA certification, here is what you need to know before going further.

VET TEC is a Department of Veterans Affairs program that funds technology training at approved providers. Under the original pilot program, DWC was an approved VET TEC training provider. Veterans used VET TEC benefits to enroll in our certificate programs at no out-of-pocket cost, and DWC was proud of what those veterans accomplished.

VET TEC 2.0, reauthorized under the DOLE Act in January 2025, changed the eligibility rules for approved providers. Under the new framework, non-accredited schools offering fully online programs were excluded from approval. DWC falls into that category. We are not on the VET TEC 2.0 approved provider list and cannot accept VET TEC benefits at this time.

This was not a performance issue. Our program quality, graduate outcomes, and employer placement rates were never in question. The change was statutory — it affected a category of providers, not specific schools — and we had no recourse.

What VET TEC Offers That We Cannot Match:

What VET TEC 2.0 Requires That Many Veterans Cannot Meet:

  • Full-time attendance — you generally cannot maintain employment while receiving the housing allowance
  • Training at an approved in-person or residential provider, eliminating most online options
  • Navigating limited approved provider availability with waitlists in many technology fields
  • Deduction of GI Bill entitlement at one month per month of full-time VET TEC training

If VET TEC 2.0 is available to you and works with your schedule and location, pursue it. The VA’s approved provider list is the right starting point. If it is not accessible to you — because you cannot attend full time, because approved providers are not in your area, because you have already exhausted your GI Bill entitlement, or because VET TEC approved programs in your target field are full — the Next Mission Scholarship was designed for exactly this situation.

DWC is also an approved provider under WIOA workforce training grants, which may fully cover tuition for qualifying veterans through their local American Job Center.

What Is the Next Mission Scholarship?

what is the Next Mission Scholarship for Veterans technology

The Next Mission Scholarship is a DWC institutional scholarship for eligible U.S. veterans and qualifying active-duty service members within 180 days of separation. It is not a government benefit, not a VA program, and not affiliated with GI Bill, VET TEC, or any federal education benefit. It is a direct tuition reduction funded by DWC, based on your veteran status and individual income.

Qualifying veterans receive 80 percent off standard tuition on any of DWC’s nine eligible certificate programs. The remaining 20 percent is handled through Climb Credit, a student lending partner that specializes in financing career-focused training. Climb Credit pays DWC and then manages your monthly payments directly. DWC has no involvement in billing or collections after enrollment.

For shorter programs — Project Management, CompTIA A+, and CompTIA Network+ — the remaining 20 percent is paid directly to DWC in two simple payments. No financing required.

The scholarship replaces DWC’s previous Veterans Tech Skills Scholarship. If you applied for that scholarship, contact us and we will evaluate your eligibility under the Next Mission Scholarship.

The Next Mission Scholarship applies to the nine certificate programs listed below. Other DWC programs are available at standard pricing with the Community Heroes Discount.

Do You Qualify?

do you qualify for VET TEC approved program

All three criteria below must be met. There are no exceptions.

Criterion 1: Verified U.S. Veteran or Qualifying Active-Duty Status

  • Separated veterans: DD-214 (Member 4 copy preferred) required
  • Active-duty service members within 180 days of confirmed separation date: current military ID plus separation orders or EAS/ETS documentation required
  • National Guard and Reserve members who have completed at least 180 continuous days of active-duty service are eligible with a qualifying DD-214
  • Eligible discharge statuses: Honorable, General (Under Honorable Conditions)
  • Not eligible: Other Than Honorable, Bad Conduct, Dishonorable

Criterion 2: Within 7 Years of Separation

  • Your discharge or separation date must be within the past 7 years
  • This is calculated from the date on your DD-214 to your application date
  • Veterans separated more than 7 years ago are not eligible for the Next Mission Scholarship but qualify for the Community Heroes Discount of 40 percent off standard tuition

Criterion 3: Individual Annual Income Between $30,000 and $75,000

  • Income must come from all personal sources combined: wages, VA disability compensation, GI Bill housing allowance if currently receiving, pension, Social Security, and investment income
  • Household income is not used. This is your individual income only, regardless of spouse or partner earnings
  • Spouse or partner income is not counted
  • Veterans with individual income below $30,000 may qualify for fully funded training through VA Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31) or a WIOA Individual Training Account — see the resources section below
  • Veterans with individual income above $75,000 qualify for the Community Heroes Discount of 40 percent off standard tuition

If You Do Not Meet the Income Criteria

We want to make sure every veteran gets connected with the right funding, not just the funding DWC offers. If your individual income is below $30,000 or above $75,000, the resources below may be a better fit.

If Your Income Is Below $30,000:

Veterans in this situation often qualify for fully funded training with no out-of-pocket cost at all. These programs are worth exploring before paying anything.

VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Chapter 31) — Chapter 31, also called VR&E, provides vocational training, education, and employment support for veterans with service-connected disabilities or other qualifying conditions. If approved, Chapter 31 can cover full tuition, fees, books, and a monthly subsistence allowance. Apply for Chapter 31 here. Check your Chapter 31 eligibility here. DWC will provide a formal letter of support for your Chapter 31 application including program details, labor market data, and occupational outcome information. Contact us if you are pursuing this route.

WIOA Individual Training Accounts — DWC is an approved provider under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. Veterans are a priority population under WIOA and may receive a training voucher that covers full DWC tuition. Contact your local American Job Center or the Colorado Workforce Center to begin an eligibility assessment.

VET TEC 2.0 Approved Providers — If your income is below $30,000 and you are seeking free technology training, an approved in-person VET TEC 2.0 provider may be your best path. The VA’s approved provider list covers technology training in computer programming, data processing, computer software, media application, and information sciences.

GI Bill Comparison Tool — Compare approved schools and programs using your GI Bill benefits. This tool shows which programs are approved, estimated costs, and housing allowances available by school and program type.

eBenefits VA Benefits Portal — Manage your VA education and employment benefits, view your entitlement status, and apply for programs in one place.

If Your Income Is Above $75,000:

The Community Heroes Discount provides 40 percent off standard tuition for all veterans regardless of income or time since discharge. Climb Credit financing is available for the remaining balance. This discount is available on all DWC certificate programs.

Which Programs Does the Next Mission Scholarship Cover?

Nine of DWC’s certificate programs are eligible. Every program is delivered live online with a real instructor, runs on a cohort schedule, and includes hands-on projects, portfolio development, and career coaching. No recorded lectures. No self-paced modules.

How Climb Credit Works

For the six longer programs, the 20 percent remaining after the Next Mission Scholarship is financed through Climb Credit, a student lending company that specializes in financing career-focused training programs. Unlike traditional lenders that evaluate borrowers primarily on credit history, Climb Credit also considers the return on investment of the specific program, including graduate employment outcomes and expected salary ranges.

Approval is fast. Most applicants receive a decision within minutes. A soft credit check during the initial application does not affect your credit score.

Once approved, Climb Credit pays DWC directly. You make monthly payments to Climb Credit, not to DWC. DWC has no role in billing or collections after enrollment.

Two payment options are available:

Consistent monthly payments: Fixed monthly payments for 36 months beginning after enrollment. No deferred interest.

$20 per month during training: Pay just $20 per month during your active program enrollment, then transition to full monthly payments for the remaining 30 months. This option keeps your payments extremely low while you are in training and building new skills.

Apply to Climb Credit here — you can complete the application before or at the same time as your DWC scholarship application.

Rates shown are based on 13.99% APR as published on DWC’s payment plan page. Actual rate depends on individual credit profile and Climb Credit underwriting.

Required Documentation

All documents are submitted through the scholarship application. DWC scholarship committee will review documentation within 14 business days. Your cohort seat is not reserved until documentation is verified and your scholarship is confirmed in writing. DWC does not share your documentation with third parties. Income documentation is used solely to verify eligibility.

Proof of veteran or active-duty status

Proof of veteran or active-duty status (one required):

    • DD-214, Member 4 copy (separated veterans)
    • Current military ID plus separation orders or EAS/ETS documentation (active duty within 180 days of separation)
    • National Guard or Reserve activation orders plus DD-214 if applicable

Proof of individual income

Proof of income (one of the following, plus VA disability letter if applicable):

  • Most recent federal tax return (Form 1040, all pages) — preferred for most applicants
  • Most recent three consecutive pay stubs, if recently employed and 1040 does not reflect current income
  • VA disability award letter if receiving disability compensation (required in addition to tax return or pay stubs)
  • Pension, Social Security, or benefit award letter if applicable

Government-issued photo ID

Government-issued photo ID:

  • State driver’s license, state ID, or passport
  • Military ID accepted

If your income changed significantly in the past 12 months, for example if you recently separated from service or recently became unemployed, contact DWC before submitting. We can work with you on appropriate documentation for your current situation rather than your most recent tax return.

How to Apply for the Next Mission Scholarship

The application takes approximately 10 minutes. Documentation review takes up to 3 business days. Once verified, your scholarship tier and monthly payment are confirmed in writing and your cohort seat is reserved. Attend a free information session before applying if you want to speak with an advisor about program fit and career outcomes first.

=

1 Complete the scholarship application

Use the form on this page. You will be asked about your income band, employment status, and program interest. The form calculates your estimated tier and monthly payment before you submit your contact information. If your income falls below $40,000, the form will redirect you to VA Vocational Rehab and WIOA resources rather than continuing to the documentation step.

=

2 Upload your documentation

Submit your DD-214 or equivalent, income documentation, and government-issued photo ID through the secure upload fields in the application.

=

3 Receive your tier confirmation

DWC staff will review your documentation within 3 business days and send you a written scholarship confirmation with your verified tier, monthly payment amount, and eligible cohort start dates.

=

4 Set up auto-draft and reserve your seat

Use the QuickBooks payment link in your confirmation email to enroll in recurring monthly payments. Your seat is officially reserved once auto-draft is active, not before.

=

5 Attend orientation and begin

You will receive pre-start orientation materials, your cohort schedule, and your Battle Buddy pairing before your first session. A Battle Buddy is a fellow student at a similar program stage who checks in with you weekly. It is not graded. It is accountability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is DWC on the VET TEC 2.0 approved provider list?

No. DWC is not currently on the VET TEC 2.0 approved provider list and cannot accept VET TEC benefits at this time. VET TEC 2.0, created under the DOLE Act in January 2025, excluded non-accredited online programs from approval. DWC’s programs are fully online and non-accredited, placing us outside the current eligibility framework. This was a statutory change affecting a category of providers and was not related to our program quality or graduate outcomes. The Next Mission Scholarship was built specifically for veterans who would have used VET TEC to train with DWC.

I used DWC under VET TEC 1.0. Can I return?

Yes. Prior VET TEC enrollment at DWC does not affect your eligibility for the Next Mission Scholarship. If you want to enroll in a program you have not previously completed and you meet the current qualifying criteria, you are eligible. Contact us and we will confirm your eligibility and available cohort dates.

Why is DWC no longer a VET TEC approved training provider?

VET TEC 2.0 introduced new eligibility requirements that excluded non-accredited schools offering fully online programs — the category DWC falls into. This change was not related to our program quality, our graduate outcomes, or our performance as a VET TEC 1.0 provider. It was a structural change to the statute governing which types of schools can participate. We are monitoring regulatory developments that could change this in the future and will update our status if eligibility criteria change.

Can I use my Post-9/11 GI Bill at DWC?

Not at this time. DWC is not approved for Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) benefits. The same statutory framework that affects VET TEC 2.0 eligibility applies to GI Bill approval for non-accredited online programs. We are monitoring proposed regulatory changes and will update our status if that changes. The GI Bill Comparison Tool can help you identify GI Bill approved providers.

Is this available outside Colorado?

Yes. All DWC certificate programs are fully online and available to veterans nationwide. The Next Mission Scholarship has no geographic restriction.

Can I use VA Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31) benefits at DWC?

Possibly. VA Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation approval is made on a case-by-case basis by your VA counselor. DWC can provide a formal letter of support for your Chapter 31 application, including program details, labor market alignment data, and occupational outcome information. Contact us if you are pursuing this route and we will prepare the documentation for your counselor.

Does VA disability compensation count toward the income requirement?

Yes. VA disability compensation counts toward your individual annual income for the purpose of determining eligibility. If your total individual income from all sources, including disability compensation, falls between $30,000 and $75,000, you qualify.

What if my income is above $75,000?

The Community Heroes Discount provides 40 percent off standard tuition for all veterans regardless of income level or time since discharge. Climb Credit financing is available for the remaining balance. This discount is available on all DWC certificate programs.

What if my income is below $30,000?

Veterans with individual income below $30,000 may qualify for fully funded training through VA Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31), a WIOA Individual Training Account, or a VET TEC 2.0 approved provider. These programs can cover full tuition at no out-of-pocket cost and are worth exploring before committing to any monthly payment. See the resources section above for direct links. DWC is a WIOA approved provider and can support your WIOA application if that pathway is available to you.

How does Climb Credit affect my credit?

The initial Climb Credit application uses a soft credit check, which does not affect your credit score. If you accept a loan, a hard inquiry will appear on your credit report. Monthly payments to Climb Credit are reported to credit bureaus, which means on-time payments can help build your credit history over the 36-month repayment period. Apply to Climb Credit here.

What happened to the Veterans Tech Skills Scholarship?

The Next Mission Scholarship replaces the Veterans Tech Skills Scholarship. The new scholarship provides a larger flat discount (80 percent versus the previous variable amount), covers all nine eligible certificate programs, and integrates Climb Credit financing for the balance so DWC is not involved in payment collection. If you applied for the Tech Skills Scholarship, contact us and we will evaluate your eligibility under the Next Mission Scholarship.

Your Service Earned This. Your Next Mission Starts Here.

DWC trained veterans in technology careers under VET TEC 1.0 and we are proud of what those veterans accomplished. VET TEC 2.0 changed the rules. We built this scholarship so the change did not have to change your plans.

Eighty percent off. Climb Credit for the rest. Nine programs. No waitlists.
